First I'll give you the low down of her arrival. I had my 37 week appointment on wednesday at 10:15am. So I get out of bed at 8:15ish to get ready to go (which was going to take some time on account of my largeness and inability to get anywhere quickly) and the moment I stand up, my water breaks. So we decide to leave as soon as we can to go to the doctor's office and get checked out. The nurse-midwife checks me out at about 10am and we discover that I'm already 5cm dilated and 100% effaced. Needless to say they called the hospital to let them know we were coming and we went right on over. They got me all situated into the adorable hospital gown and got my IV going, which is a story in and of itself...the Life Flight paramedic almost had to do my IV. That's how amazing my veins are. By the time the nurse checked me at 11am, I was already dilated to 7cm. So they got the anesthesiologist to get my epidural going cause contractions kind of suck and they were killing me at this point. When sweet relief overtook the lower portion of my body, I was pretty much ready to start pushing. Cue the doctor right? Wrong. He was headed into a C-section and since I wasn't in any pain, the C-section came first. Plus the contractions could bring her head down farther and I wouldn't have to push as long. While he waited for the doctor, we had a glorious time playing cards. The beauty of an epidural. The nurses came in at about 1pm to get me ready to push. We tried a few pushes and found out that I was too numb to push effectively, so they called the anesthesiologist to come turn down my epidural. The doctor came in at about 1:30pm, I pushed through about 5 or 6 contractions and she was born at 1:59pm. So my entire labor and delivery was about 6 hours from start to finish. All of the nurses were astonished that I went that fast and this was my first baby. I guess my body just knows what to do and gets it done. No lolly-gagging.

She couldn't decide if she liked her bath or not. It was quite hilarious. The only part she absolutely loved without a doubt was get her hair washed. It probably felt like a nice massage.

Chillin in her swing after we got home
Oh my gosh! I think you've unveiled your hidden talent...making babies! It sounds like such a breeze. 6 hours start to finish on baby #1 AND 3 weeks early?? That's crazy! You better camp out at the hospital the entire 3rd trimester next time because who knows how fast baby #2 will come!
ReplyDeleteRebecca is beautiful! I wish you guys were here so bad! I want to hold her and kiss her! Give her lots and lots of loves from Aunt Jill!
